Living In Tents I have adopted as a metaphor for my life the image of Abraham living in tents as a foreigner in the land God had promised him. (Hebrews 11:9-10) It inspires me to a light, flexible, portable life. I want to cherish every moment, possession, location, relationship as a gift to be held loosely, with generosity and gratitude. It protects me from clinging to the transitory while savoring the present. It calls me to a journey with unanticipated twists and turns that still leads to a secure destination. It tunes me to the voice of God, constantly coaxing me toward the presence of Christ. These entries are the field notes of my pilgrimage. You are invited to respond from your own journey.

Theological Tavern Theological Tavern attempts to go beyond the spin, rhetoric, and news of the day to discover meaning and identity for our soul. Sometimes we’ll blow the dust off our Bible as a starting point. Other times we'll observe the "truth is stranger than fiction" stories of our lives to help us understand the miraculous and hypocritical.

The Westside Cafe Blog Join the West Side Café, both conducted live in the sanctuary of Central Christian Church Dallas Wednesday’s 7pm and podcast. Each Wednesday night, Pastors Todd Boddy and John Cunyus will take an in-depth, relevant look at the Bible. We'll put the text in context; teach enough background for you to understand it, and then just focus on the Word. Left, right, old, young, near, far, we invite you to join us as we study scripture. The Westside Cafe also has a blog for additional discussion by Todd and John as well as interaction with the public.

Community is about conversation. Some conversations need to be face to face in real time. An email or phone call from a traveling spouse is appreciated but no replacement for the welcome home hug and good night kiss. Much of the classic literature of Christian spirituality began as a correspondence conversation. Today’s electronic communication technology and the culture it has spawned makes possible wonderfully stimulating conversation that need not wait for postal delivery or for the other person to answer the phone.
Central Christian Church offers this space to engender a community of conversation around questions of God, Jesus Christ, the Christian church and being people and communities of faith. As Proverbs 27:17 says “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens the wits of another.” The purpose of this conversational community is that all who participate will be sharpened.
Differences of opinion are expected, normal and healthy in this conversational community. The point is not so much for me to convince you that I am right (and by implication that you are wrong) as it is for me to understand what has brought you to a different conclusion or opinion than I have come to. Together, we accept one another as genuine seekers with personal integrity and refrain from personal attacks.
Similarly, this conversational community does not represent the official positions of Central Christian Church or of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Thus diverse theological perspectives are welcome; skeptics and non-believers are welcome to participate. Even the pastors whose entries seek to stimulate conversation are writing out of their own faith journeys and not as spokespersons for the church, and they may not always agree with each other. This is healthy and beneficial.
Nevertheless, this conversational community is not a free-for-all. Responses will be monitored, not to insure uniformity of opinion, but to keep it free from inappropriate language, personal attacks, unsubstantiated rumors and slander.
