A Different Approach to Bible Teaching
Do you need another approach to Bible study and meaningful wisdom for your life? You are invited to the Bible Teaching Ministry of the West Side Café, with Pastors Todd Boddy and Dr. John Cunyus. Join John and Todd each week as they teach, converse, and thoughtfully engage each other from the Biblical text at the West Side Café. It is fast paced, in depth, and strong on application. Become part of the deep conversation as the Spirit speaks through the scriptures.
The West Side Café is a teaching and dialogue format to help people listen to the word and hear the Loved One’s voice again. It’s meant to bring a smile as we recognize God at work in us by awakening the conscience, Spirit, and body with words of life from the scripture. Sometimes practical, sometimes philosophical, sometimes irreverent and humorous, The West Side Café, with Todd Boddy and John Cunyus will always be unpredictable.
Meditating and studying the scriptures independently, Todd and John don’t script their dialogue with each other. They purposefully work toward presenting an extemporaneous exchange as they read and explain the Scriptures in a fresh way.
Emphasis on the Bible
Too often, we only realize how much our loved ones' voice meant to us after we no longer hear it. While we are together, we take things for granted, stumble ahead like robots, even snap and snarl when things don't go our way. Then, bam, the loved one is gone, and nothing in the world can fill the void inside.
If this is true of our earthly loved ones, how much more true is it of our heavenly Loved One, of our Father, God! We stumble through life, not realizing that even the breath in our lungs is God's gift. Still we wonder where God is. And this is why we started the West Side Café; there are realms in people’s lives where only something uniquely prescribed by God can help. We have to be intentionally reminded of this. So we read scripture and we talk about it at a gut level together.
At the West Side Café, we read the Bible because it is our Loved One's voice! Time and time again, scripture's words have proven to be the rock of refuge to God's people. We claim that power together, and we take time here and now to listen to God's voice.
It is the voice of God we look forward to hearing. By visiting the living word in worship community we hear something meant for us that flows right into the voids. Our world is filled with vices and addictions which began with good intentions to medicate our hurts. For some of us they became our unintentional focus and replaced our first love, God. Thankfully, the time and tested scripture and Spirit are more powerful.
Our pride sometimes lures us to think we are a tower of strength and have the mental prowess to handle anything. Live long enough and life with break you of these thoughts.
Try cultivating a spiritual quest solely centered on self, and eventually the wings which carried you will melt when you need them the most. The scriptures of the Bible explain the spiritual history of mankind. They have undergone the test of time, academic scrutiny, and the blood sweat and tears of God’s people. They are more than deserving of a hearing, for they promise blessing, wisdom, and life. They tell us the truth about ourselves.
